Okay, I'm sure this type of question has been beat to death, but here goes.
I'm looking for a 1.4x teleconverter for usage on a Canon 500mm f/4.5 that I'm thinking about buying. Two things are of importance to me: image quality and autofocus.
Will the Canon 1.4x deliver higher quality on this lens than a Kenko?
Will the Kenko autofocus well without taping pins? I'd rather not tape pins if unnecessary.
Which would you buy?
Thanks!
I think you should be aware that Canon no longer have replacement parts for their f4.5 500 lens. I would think twice about purchasing it. In fact I'd go so far as to say don't buy it unless it is being sold for an amount that compares with a kid's summer holiday pocket money!
Sorry.

I'd agree, unless it's cheap thing long and hard before buying it... If it develops a fault you could end up with a very expensive paperweight! Have a look for a secondhand Sigma 500 f4.5, it may well be a better option.
