hi first camera - help wanted

I have always loved birding
I have a high quality canon camera
however I want to go digital
I don't have a large budget
any suggestions of a good beginner camera
Would be greatly appreciated
Thanks!
Alex

It depends on what gear you already have - is it a Canon EOS SLR? If so your best bet would be to buy a Canon DSLR and use your exisiting lenses on it. The entry level Canons (currently the 400D, soon to be replaced by the 450D) are excellent value and may be the way to go.

I would suggest waiting for the 450D rather than go for the 400 as it is only a little way off and has many features of the 40D, (my current camera), which will make it a better choice for birding. If you are looking to grab birds in flight though perhaps the 40D with its higher frame rate and custom menus would be the best choice. I have a 450D body on order which I will keep for perching birds and macro shots with its 12 Meg sensor and keep the 450 with the zoom for BIF. Hope that helps a bit and welcome to Bird Forum.
