Well I took my canon xti and sigma 135-400mm out today and got some dismal shots. I did not have a tripod. Im not sure what I was thinking but somehow I thought the shutter speed would be so fast that I would not need one but I definitely do I guess. But then I thought what about when a bird moves. Maybe I just had the wrong setting. I was using the AV mode. I had it on ISO 1600. Was that the mistake?
The ISO1600 would give you plenty of scope for fast shutter speeds, but also not good for digital noise. On the other hand AV mode (aperture priority) might give you very slow shutter speeds if you have a small aperture selected (high aperture number).
Can you advise what apertures were used? The pictures should have this info stored in the EXIF data.

I will get back to you on that I was so disgusted with the pictures I deleted them. So I will snap some more pics tomorrow and get back with you with the exif info. I do not know why I deleted them so fast, I guess I was just totally disgusted with my results.
Thanks.
