Lowepro Carry On bag help please

I am going to Lesbos next year for my first overseas birding holiday. Having researched here I plan to take my optical equipment, including my 'scope in my hand luggage.

I will need a new bag for it all.

My scope is the longest at 41cm , without eyepiece and I was considering the Lowe Pro Nature Trekker AW II. The internal measurement will just fit its length. Their website shows it as suitable for airline Carry on.at 37X38X48.5.

However Airline websites show maximum carry on of 56x45x25?

1. Is this bag too big for a carry on; and thus the Lowepro website wrong , or have I missed something?

2. If so is there another bag anyone can recommend which will be ok to carry on and long enough for my scope, a Swarovski AT80HD?

Please Help
Thanks

As long as your bag's dimensions added together come to equal or less than that of the airline's requirements then you'll be okay. As the Lowepro's dimensions add up to 123.5cm and the airline stipulates 126cm you should have no problems.

The problem is that the regulations vary between airlines - Ryanair have dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Most checkin points have those metal frames and your bag is supposed to fit comfortably into one of those. The only time I've been asked to put my bag in one of those frames it needed very slight pressure to get it in, but the staff accepted it quite happily.

Check the website of the airline you are flying with and if your bag is within their limits, then print out a copy of the web page. That way if you're unlucky and get someone fussy at checkin you have something in print to quote.

Don't forget the weight limits either. My bag is regularly overweight, so I stuff a few items in jacket pockets until I'm on the plane then put them back in the bag.
